First, please be sure you are using RevitaLash® as directed on the package insert. Remember: only a small quantity of RevitaLash® is needed to enhance the beauty of your natural eyelashes.

In the tests, no symptoms of skin sensitization (contact allergy) were observed in the human test subjects. Can I have a lash perm if I’m using Latisse, Revitalash or Marini Lash products?

Filed Under (eyelash perms) by liz on 09-07-2010

Tagged Under : , ,

YES! My Japanese Style Lash Perm works great for those who are using lash enhancing products. The perming products I use are gentle on the lashes. Lash growing products strengthen and grow lashes combined with the perm lashes look naturally curled, long and full. Many of my clients who use lash growing products don’t even have to use mascara!

I have included in this article the “What you should know about each lash growing product.” So you can make an educated decision on whether to use them and which product is right for you. Please look over each company’s product information that was available.

“PATIENT INFORMATION LATISSE® (la teece) (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03%”

Read the Patient Information that comes with LATISSE® before you start using it and each time you get a refill. There may be new information. This leaflet does not take the place of talking with your physician about your treatment.

What is hypotrichosis of the eyelashes?
Hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

What is LATISSE® solution?
LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer,
thicker and darker.

Who should NOT take LATISSE®?
Do not use LATISSE® solution if you are allergic to one of its ingredients.

Are there any special warnings associated with LATISSE® use?
LATISSE® solution is intended for use on the skin of the upper eyelid margins at the base of the eyelashes.
DO NOT APPLY to the lower eyelid. If you are using LUMIGAN® or other products in the same class for elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), or if you have a history of abnormal IOP, you should only use LATISSE® under the close supervision of your physician.
LATISSE® use may cause darkening of the eyelid skin which may be reversible. LATISSE® use may also cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent.
It is possible for hair growth to occur in other areas of your skin that LATISSE® frequently touches. Any excess solution outside the upper eyelid margin should be blotted with a tissue or other absorbent material to reduce the chance of this from happening. It is also possible for a difference in eyelash length, thickness, fullness, pigmentation, number of eyelash hairs, and/or direction of eyelash growth to occur between eyes.
These differences, should they occur, will usually go away if you stop using LATISSE®.

Who should I tell that I am using LATISSE®?
You should tell your physician you are using LATISSE® especially if you have a history of eye pressure problems.
You should also tell anyone conducting an eye pressure screening that you are using LATISSE®.

What should I do if I get LATISSE® in my eye?
LATISSE® solution is an ophthalmic drug product. LATISSE® is not expected to cause harm if it gets into the eye proper. Do not attempt to rinse your eye in this situation.

What are the possible side effects of LATISSE®?
The most common side effects after using LATISSE® solution are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. This was reported in approximately 4% of patients. LATISSE® solution may cause other less common side effects which typically occur on the skin close to where LATISSE® is applied, or in the eyes. These include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids.
If you develop a new ocular condition (e.g., trauma or infection), experience a sudden decrease in visual acuity, have ocular surgery, or develop any ocular reactions, particularly conjunctivitis and eyelid reactions, you should immediately seek your physician’s advice concerning the continued use of LATISSE® solution.

What happens if I stop using LATISSE®?
If you stop using LATISSE®, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
Any eyelid skin darkening is expected to reverse after several weeks to months.
Any darkening of the colored part of the eye known as the iris is NOT expected to reverse and is likely permanent.

How do I use LATISSE®?
LATISSE® solution is packaged as a 3 mL bottle of solution with 60 accompanying sterile, disposable applicators. The recommended dosage is one application nightly to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes only.
Once nightly, start by ensuring your face is clean, makeup and contact lenses are removed. Remove an applicator from its tray. Then, holding the sterile applicator horizontally, place one drop of LATISSE® on the area of the applicator closest to the tip but not on the tip (see Illustration 1). Then immediately draw the applicator carefully across the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes (where the eyelashes
meet the skin) going from the inner part of your lash line to the outer part (see Illustration 2). Blot any excess solution beyond the eyelid margin. Dispose of the applicator after one use.
Repeat for the opposite upper eyelid margin using a new sterile applicator. This helps minimize any potential for contamination from one eyelid to another.

DO NOT APPLY in your eye or to the lower lid. ONLY use the sterile applicators supplied with LATISSE® to apply the product. If you miss a dose, don’t try to “catch up.” Just apply LATISSE® solution the next evening. Fifty percent of patients treated with LATISSE® in a clinical study saw significant improvement by 2 months after starting treatment.
If any LATISSE® solution gets into the eye proper, it is not expected to cause harm. The eye should not be rinsed.
Don’t allow the tip of the bottle or applicator to contact surrounding structures, fingers, or any other unintended surface in order to avoid contamination by common bacteria known to cause infections.
Contact lenses should be removed prior to application of LATISSE® and may be reinserted 15 minutes following its administration.
Use of LATISSE® more than once a day will not increase the growth of eyelashes more than use once a day.
Store LATISSE® solution at 36o to 77oF (2o to 25oC).
General Information about LATISSE®.
Prescription treatments are sometimes prescribed for conditions that are not mentioned in patient information leaflets. Do not use LATISSE® solution for a condition for which it was not prescribed. Do not give LATISSE® to other people. It may not be appropriate for them to use.
This leaflet summarizes the most important information about LATISSE® solution. If you would like more information, talk with your physician.
You can also call Allergan’s product information department at 1-800-433-8871.

What are the ingredients in LATISSE®?
Active ingredient: bimatoprost
Inactive ingredients: benzalkonium chloride; sodium chloride; sodium phosphate, dibasic; citric acid; and purified water. Sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid may be added to adjust pH. The pH during its shelf life ranges from 6.8 – 7.8.”

Eyebrow And Lash Tinting

Filed Under (eyelash perms, eyelash tinting) by liz on 15-12-2009

eyebrow and lash tinting

Do your eyes sparkle like jewels or do they simply get lost in the scenery of your face? Your eyes may be emerald pools, but lackluster brows and nearly invisible lashes can fail to set them off to their utmost potential. Create “eye opening” appeal and add pizzazz to those peepers with a popular procedure known as tinting.

The Best Shaped Plans

Most of us spend hours primping and plucking in order to find that elusive ideal brow shape. After all the brows act as the natural frame for our face. But even the best-shaped brows may not set off the eyes if hair is fine, sparse or pale. Brow tinting may be your solution. Just like having your hair colored, brow tinting changes the color, adds the illusion of thickness and dimension.

Keep in mind tweezing or waxing should always be done AFTER the tint. This allows for maximizing the amount of brow hair available for shaping. If tweezing before tinting, the maximum potential of each eyebrow may be missed.

Pale Face

Those with incredibly pale skin, often accompanied by very blond or almost-white lashes or brows may find tinting helps add depth to their facial features. Avoid a drastic change, such as going dark brown or black for the brows. Opt instead for a more natural golden girl look. A honey color brings out the eyes and creates the frame your face so desperately lacks without looking artificial or unnatural. These newly darkened brows help accentuate the eyes, add fullness and create structure.

As for eyelashes, most women gravitate towards a black or dark brown tint. If black mascara is already a make-up essential, choosing the black tint may help benefit your overall look. Mascara may serve a necessary purpose of thickening the lashes, but imagine removing your mascara and maintaining definition of the eyes.

Because Only Your Hairdresser Knows

For those who prefer that only their hairdresser know their hair color comes from a bottle, brow tinting may be a necessity. If the hair color des jour is not naturally blonde, the chances that your brows are in sync with your gorgeous new “do” are slim. Overly dark brows combined with blonde hair can look harsh and unsophisticated. Brunettes sporting blonde hair may want to tone down the brows (an exact match isn’t necessary) in order to create an esthetically balanced appearance.

As for your eyelashes, once again, it is dependent upon what shade of mascara you prefer combined with which hair color you’ve selected. Since your colorist will have to perform the eyelash tint (this is not something to try at home), ask for an opinion. After all, it’s their expertise you’re paying for.

Semi-Permanent Beauty

Tinting may be the closest thing to permanent make-up for the brows and lashes. Anyone looking to enhance the eyes while vacationing (who wants to apply make-up on holiday?) or for poolside perfection, eyelash tinting could be just what you are looking for. Imagine that freshly applied mascara look after taking a dip in the pool. And if you fear mascara running during a wedding or date night movie, consider chemically enhancing your lashes.

The Early Bird

There is something to be said about looking freshly made-up first thing in the morning. The look of dark lashes and/or brows could also bring some definition to your complexion on your make-up free days. This alternative to mascara would greatly benefit anyone prone to mascara sensitivity, as well as those dealing with allergies that cause watery eyes and smearing mascara.

Only A Day Spa Away

Lash and brow tinting is available in many upscale salons and day spas. An eyebrow tint can run between $10-15, and expect to spend anywhere from $14-25 for eyelash tinting, perhaps more on the Coasts. Some spas offer inclusive packages at a discounted price. Expect the tint to take about 20 to 30 minutes. While the results may vary, just like regular coloring a touch-up may be necessary between 4-6 weeks.

Lash and brow tinting is not for everyone. If you have an allergy to hair dye or are easily irritated by color additives, this treatment would not be for you. Also, if you are currently suffering with an eye infection skip the idea until it clears up. Your salon or spa technician should also advise you to remove your contact lenses before the service.

Curly Q

Another specialty treatment available in some spas or salons is eyelash perming. This magic elixir helps eliminate daily eyelash curler use and keeps natural lashes curled to perfection. Typical costs start around $40.00. The perm should last the life of your eyelashes, which translates to approximately 5 months. Lash perming is best suited for those special occasions, like vacations, etc., and not for long-term use.

What’s A Girl To Use?

Although eyelash and eyebrow tinting services are being performed everyday in salons and day spas around the globe there exists some controversy as to the safety of these procedures. The products used to tint or dye the lashes and brows are not yet FDA approved. The FDA has issued many warnings against the use of permanent aniline-derived eyebrow and eyelash dyeing and the cosmetology industry agrees, opting instead for harmless coloring ingredients. However the FDA has not yet officially deemed any dye or tint safe for use on lashes or brows.

Roux Lash and Brow Tint is one commonly used brand of aniline-free dye that falls into this quagmire of not banned, yet not officially FDA blessed products. This is sort of the Botox for wrinkles limbo seen in the 1990’s.

Reports of women having tragic results surface periodically. The 1930’s were a decade full of more severe reactions (possibly to the chemicals used) yet a recent 2001 case left a woman with chemical burns and damaged vision.

This issue remains murky at best. Many individuals and salons actively support lash and brow tinting and thousands of women every year successfully receive these treatments without any adverse reactions. Still the FDA’s lack of approval combined with a few documented cases of irreparable damage cast a small shadow of doubt on the safety of this procedure.

The ultimate decision is up to you. Do your homework, and make sure to visit a reputable establishment with experienced licensed technicians. Safety is your primary concern and a skilled technician should be able to give you a great set of lashes and/or brows without any unwanted side effects. You may find your eyes become your best feature when waxed (or tweezed) and tinted to perfection. You never know, a stunning set of lashes and brows may be just a tint away.

This procedure takes approximately 1 hour and the results generally last for 6-8 weeks, or the natural growth cycle of the eyelashes.

What is an Eyelash Perm?

The eyelash perm procedure at BeautiGoddess Studio uses “rollers” that are gently affixed to the eyelids.  These rollers come in varying sizes, allowing the client to select from a range of super-curly eyelashes (”Betty Boop” style) to a more natural look.  The individual eyelashes are then curled over the rollers, and a permanent solution is applied.  Similar to the hair on your head, the solution allows the lash hairs to retain their curl for a period of 6-8 weeks.  Eyelash perms can dramatically open up the look of the eye area and give the appearance of longer and fuller lashes, even before mascara.

During the eyelash perm, which takes approximately 1 hour, you may lay back and relax and take in the sounds of our soothing spa music, or bring your own iPod. However, you will need to keep your eyes closed and relaxed for the duration of the treatment for the best eyelash perm results.

Is it safe to perm my lashes?

Yes.  This particular eyelash perm solution is proven to work gently, yet effectively, on the lashes, creating a lasting curl without the risk of “frying” them.

Can I wear makeup or contacts during an Eyelash Perm?

We ask you to remove all eye makeup and contacts before your eyelash perm treatment at BeautiGoddess Studio.  This may be done at home or in our day spa (makeup remover and contact solution are available).

How should I care for my lashes after an Eyelash Perm?

Try to avoid wetting your lashes for a few hours after your eyelash perm.  We recommend applying Eyelash Conditioner to the lashes daily. Conditioning eyelash gel and mascara is available at the Studio, by phone, and e-mail.  Using Eyelash Conditioner regularly will ensure that your lashes stay healthy.
